ANDREA BIANCONI

Born in Arzignano (VI), Italy / Nato ad Arzignano (VI), Italia (1974).

Lives and works in / Vive e lavora a Brooklyn (NY) and / e Vicenza (Italia / Italy).

His work embraces the various artistic forms of performance, painting and sculpture, with exhibitions in public museums and private spaces throughout the world. In 2020 he creates “Sit down To Have An Idea”, a project which started in Bologna, he has contaminated twenty-four places in the city. The project continued at the Duse 

Theatre in Bologna, in the Dolomites with the installation of the armchair on Coma Carega (2.259 m), in Tropea, the pearl of the Tyrrhenian Sea, in Colletta Di Castelbianco, one of the “I Borghi più belli d’Italia” and in Chiampo redeveloping an abandoned area.

 In 2019, in the prison of San Vittore, Milan, he appeared in theperformance “Come creare una direzione [How to create an direction]”, a touching event created with the theatrical company of theCETEC Dentro/Fuori [Inside/Outside] San Vittore, in which some of the prisoners take part. In the same year, in Houston, Texas, he presented “Prisoner of Love”, a solo exhibition with over two hundred site specific works. In 2018, he was the first Italian artist to be invited toDavos (Switzerland), during the 48thWorld Economic Forum, presenting to Heads of State from all over the world his performance “Voice to the Nature”, an exposé of the ongoing ecocide and a reminder to world leaders of the urgent need to act “now and not later” for the well-being of the planet. The CAMEC of La Spezia invited him for a large solo exhibition that had enormous success with visitors. Other performances and exhibitions have seen him as protagonist at theVestfossenKunstlaboratorium (Norway), the Galleria Alessandro Bagnai at Foiano della Chiana (Arezzo), the Nuova Galleria Morone (Milan) and, inPalermo, in the crypt of the Church of Santa Maria del Piliere. He has recently exhibited at the MSK Museum of Fine Arts di Ghent (Belgium) and took part in the 5thBiennial of Moscow with a public performance between the Red Square, the Kremlin and the Manegeand a wallinstallation at the Manege.

For the 150th anniversary of the Unity of Italy, he created a work at the Italian Embassy in Washington D.C. He has exhibited at theBoghossian Foundation, Brussels, the Museu do Meio Ambiente, Rio de Janeiro, the Centro del Carmen, Valencia, the Matadero, Madrid, theFilm Society,Lincoln Center, New York, Maraya Art Centre, Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, the Swiss Architecture Museum (S AM), Basle, the Kunsthal Charlottenburg, Copenhagen, theISCP, Brooklyn, NY, Palazzo Reale, Milano, theVestfossenKunstlaboratorium, Norway, Furini Arte Contemporanea, Roma and the Barbara Davis Gallery, Houston, Texas. He has created numerous public art performances such as those for theSummer Night Series, Union Square NYC, the Italian Cultural Institute, NYC, Postcard People, the Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art (HVCCA), NY, The Chinese Umbrella Hat Project (Part I), Wujiang Rd West Nanjing Rd, Shanghai, China and (Part II) Piazza San Marco, Venice. In 2011, Chartapublished his first monograph. In2012, Cura Books published his first artist’s book “ROMANCE”, followed in 2013 by his second, entitled“FABLE”. Both are part of the MoMA, NYC collection. In2016, Silvana Editoriale published a monograph on the artist’s 10 years of performance,“Andrea Bianconi Performance 2006-2016”. In 2017, AmC Coppolacollection published“SOLO”, a monograph including an interview with the international curator Catherine De Zegher. In the same year, he was present at theGalleria Bianconi of Milan in the exhibition “Partiture Visive”, curated by Vittoria Coen, and in the exhibition at Palazzo Bernaroli ofBologna entitled P-Art-Y. In 2018, he exhibited at the Archiginnasio ofBologna.
