ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE:

A critical device within the exhibition and central to Bianconi’s one-night only performance is the motif of the mask, referencing the convictions in which we take refuge and the prejudices behind which we hide.  Rather than protect or conceal, Bianconi’s masks capitulate and reveal themselves as elaborately adorned objects, inner workings becoming outer embellishments.  For his performance Trap for the Mind, Bianconi’s masks become literal facets, slowly and simultaneously divulging and consuming.
 

THE CHINESE UMBRELLA HAT PROJECT (Part I)

ABOUT THE PERFORMANCE:

Andrea Bianconi builds and decorates the symbolic number of 88 Chinese umbrella hats. At the end of the sticks are strings or little chains where small objects of daily life are attached (such as toys, coins, pins, buttons, feathers, parts of plants, and artificial flowers).

In his installation, A Charmed Life, various objects are fastened to hundreds of strings, woolen threads, and wires becoming a waterfall cascading from a single wall-mounted faucet.
